Set Up

He rocks in an empty room
“Set up, there’s been a set up”
He cries, over and over again

His eyes open
From the closed slits
“Set up, there’s been a set up”
He’s so convinced
Someone’s watching
Someone is out the door
Someone is waiting
He waits for the crow
“Set up, there’s been a set up”

The crow comes
With a gift
Two severed eyes
And a pack of cigarettes
He freaks, wonders why
The crow would bring him
A pack of cigarettes, how nasty is that?
Unsanitary things
Smokestacks are too easy to see

“Set up, there’s been a set up”

There is someone outside the door
Not sure who, but he must be there
He saw the shadow outside the corner of his eye
Not sure why, but it must be true
There is someone outside the door
Waiting and watching for him

“Set up, there’s been a set up”

He doesn’t drink water anymore
The crow doesn’t come
He doesn’t eat anymore
And the crow doesn’t come
He can’t sleep anymore
Why won’t the crow come?
He can’t blink anymore
Still the crow won’t come
He’s hungry, thirsty, tired, and sore
The eyes are in the corner
Looking good, in the state of desperation
That he has gotten himself in

“Set up, there’s been a set up”

The neighbors all carry guns
The mailman delivers bombs
The landlord is a drug cartel
The CIA is closing in on him

The crow has come
It whispered things into his ears
It whispered fearful things
Of peace and love
Puppies and flowers
And a god above
Peace fills him
And he goes outside

“It’s all ok now, I’m not ruled by fear”

He goes for a stroll, in a park
He can’t believe how beautiful the spring is
Winter came and destroyed
But it’s all ok now

He lies down on a hill
And closes his eyes
Peace is his blanket
And he is soon fast asleep
When he wakes up, he’s dead
Burning in brimstone
He apparently got shot
From behind
He apparently got blown up
He was pumped full of drugs
The CIA got a vise like grip
On his neck
And the man from behind the door
Is no longer a shadow
Not a shadow no more

“Set up, there’s been a set up”
He cries, over and over again
