Surprisingly Depressing Story About the Sun’s
Light Going Out
David sat around and enjoyed his sandwich,
the sweat on his body making the fans cool wind more enjoyable. He downed
his icy lemonade and prepared to go back out and work on the field. He stepped
out the door and saw the clock on his eastern wall, it read 12:00. David had
no clue what had just happened.
David ran his tractor along the field and loudly sang along
with Ray Charles “I can’t stop loving you!” he sang as he
rattled down the road “I’ve made up my mind, to live in memories
of long ago some time.” He closed his eyes, transfixed
by the tune. “I cant stop wanting you!” rang through his head.
David closed his eyes and watched the light play on the movie screen on his
eyelids, but then the light was suddenly gone. “huh” David cried
out and opened his eyes, only to find that everything was just as dark opened
as closed.
David stopped the tractor and stumbled a few steps and
then decided to go back and grab the flashlight and the CD player (Ray Charles)
for the trip back home. David slowly traced his way to the tractor and fumbled
around till he got his hands on both. The CD player worked, the flashlight
didn’t. “Just my luck” David muttered
to himself as he started to walk home.
The problem is that David has no sense of direction; heck
as a kid he was made fun about it, nicknamed “David the kid with no
sense of direction”. So he desperately tried to get to his house in
the pitch black with no compass and no sense of west and east or north and
south. It was getting colder and colder as David walked through the corn stalks.
Soon it was about 30 degrees and David was getting tired.
He noticed that he was walking on asphalt. Glorified that he was on his own
driveway David kept walking. He stumbled and tripped along the road. He didn’t
even hear the car.
David lay on the ground, cold, ran over by the idiot panicked
driver, driving in pitch black. As it started to get colder and colder David
started to feel sleepy. Almost nodding off and mostly frozen solid, David
finally stopped fighting and drifted off, with Ray Charles singing in his
ears “I can’t stop wanting you, its useless to say, so I’ll
just live my life of dreams of yesterday…”
